Shanghai and Anhui Province, both located in East China, have agreed to
boost their cooperation in the hosting of World Expo 2010.
Representatives of the two parties signed an agreement yesterday in
Shanghai, to expand the cooperation from the one purely in economics and
technology to an all-around model.
To take part in and host the World Expo together is one part of the
agreement and starting later this year, Anhui will help Shanghai prepare for the
Expo by providing electricity in peak periods and building facilities for
disabled tourists. The province will promote the Expo among residents and
organise institutions and local people to participate in the event.
Shanghai has agreed to cooperate with Anhui in developing its industrial
zone, energy and raw material and to help the province with transportation,
agriculture, technological innovation and an exchange of talents.
Last year, Shanghai had a 60-billion-yuan (US$7.4 billion) invested in
Anhui, with 726 projects valued above 3 million yuan.
