
Local time September 4, accompanied by the honorable Yu Qingtai, China's
Ambassador to Tanzania, a delegation led by Yang Xiong, Member of Shanghai 2010
World Expo National Organizing Committee, Executive Deputy Director of the
Executive Committee, and Vice Mayor of Shanghai, visited the honorable David
Mathayo, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Markets of the
United Republic of Tanzania in Dresden-Salem, Capital of Tanzania, in which both
sides discussed deeply about relative issues concerning the participation of
Tanzania in the Expo Shanghai.
China and Tanzania have a long and deep good relationship, and Tanzania is
the first African country visited by the Shanghai Expo Delegation.
On September 5, Mr. Yang Xiong, Vice Mayor of Shanghai, also visited the
United Nations' Habitation Commission headquartered in Nairobi. The UN's
Habitation Commission is a leading institution appointed by the United Nations
for participation in the Expo 2010 Shanghai. In the meeting both sides agreed to
cooperate extensively in three areas regarding participation of the United
Nations, the urban practice district of Expo Shanghai and the High Level Forum.
Local time September 5, Mr. Yang Xiong, Vice Mayor of Shanghai, met with Mr.
S.S. Boit, Executive Secretary of the Municipal Government of the Kenya Republic
in Nairobi, Capital of Kenya. Vice Mayor Yang says that Chinese government pays
great attention to participation of developing countries in the Expo Shanghai
and has earmarked a US$100 million fund to assist the participation by
developing countries. China and Kenya has a long and deep good relationship, and
it is wished that Kenya can confirm its participation in the Expo earlier.
Executive Secretary Boit says that Kenya government has basically completed the
preparation work for confirming its participation, that within this year the
Kenya Expo Working Group will be formed by Kenya Local Government Ministry, the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and International Trade Development Commission, and
that it will confirm its participation to China via formal diplomatic channel.
He further says that Kenya exhibited excellently in the Expo Hanover and Expo
Aichi and it is believed that the Kenya Hall will attract a lot of visitors in
the Expo Shanghai.
