Executive Committee of the World Expo 2010 Shanghai is answering
questions
The Information Office of the State Council organized a group of reporters
from domestic and overseas news organizations to visit Shanghai to cover the
preparation for Expo Shanghai on May 10-13. The reporting group consists of
journalists from the overseas edition of People's Daily, CCTV, China.Com, CRI,
Xinhua News Agency, China News Agency, AP, AFP, NHK, and Lianhe Zaobao from
Singapore as well as reporters from local press. Their reporting mainly covered
the preparation for the Shanghai World Expo and the protection of historical
relics in Shanghai.
Mr. Yang Xiong, Member of the Organizing Committee of the Expo 2010 Shanghai
China, Executive Deputy Director of the Shanghai 2010 World Expo Executive
Committee, Vice-mayor of Shanghai, met with the journalists, and answered
questions with regards to the preparation for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, and
the social and economic development in Shanghai. He said that the Expo
preparation has entered a new stage of full implementation after the Application
for Registration was passed on December 1, 2005, and at present, the city has
made material progress in the preparation for the Expo. He also briefed the
media issues concerning the opening-up and reform in Shanghai, the city's
efforts in infrastructure construction, and prospective cooperation with foreign
countries in running the World Expo.
The media group went to Pujiang World Expo Garden, World Expo Park, Yangshan
Deep-water Port, Lingang New City, East Sea Bridge and the protection zone for
historical relics in Hongkong district for field investigation and reporting.
They were deeply impressed by the progress of the preparatory work for the
Shanghai World Expo, and voiced their appreciation for the effective measures in
protecting historical relics in the city.
