Mr. Wu Jianmin, president of Bureau of International Expositions (BIE), noted
in particular the misgivings about the overall quality displayed by Chinese
people in tourism in his speech titled "World Expo & International Image
Building". As this booming business continues to develop, the issue has caught
attention of an increasing number of people. Following the opening of Hong Kong
Disney Land, news media has on a couple of occasions presented the issue on the
table. Meanwhile, 2005 World Expo that just ended in Aichi, Japan, offered quite
a few valuable enlightenments as how to manage things rightly. Speaking of the
expo this year in Japan, visitors shared one opinion, "Though a lot of people
went over there, there was an amazing order at almost all sites, with every
single person queuing and walking quietly. We have never seen anybody jumping
the queue, let alone quarrel with one another."
What are we supposed to do when the predecessors impressed us with their
conducts? At Shanghai Tourism Festival 2005, what thousands of "little hosts"
did was expected to arouse people's awareness of tourists' quality. The hope is
that we can do a better job in Shanghai, China in the near future.
As part of the keynote events of the tourism festival this year, "Get
Ready for Expo with Happiness & Quality-give clear visibility to children",
hosted by Chang Ning District Tourism Bureau and planned by Shanghai Expo
Cultural Media Co., Ltd, covers "volunteer recruitment", "Birthday Tour-Expo
Theme Celebrations", "Birthday Tour & Quality Publicity" and so on that were
selected from a collection of "golden ideas" starting in late June and will last
till the end of this year. The event aims at cultivating children's creative
powers that would be used to help enhance the tourists' quality in Shanghai.
These young Expo volunteers had a common wish: "Shanghai World Expo will be
right here in the city in 2010, when each of us will act as a host to all the
visitors. Let's start with disseminating the idea of good tourism. We promise we
will do better than any other hosts ever in 2010!"
