"Prime Age in Prime Expo: Foreign Languages 100 Series" Released

“Prime Age in Prime Expo: Foreign Language 100 Series”, published by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press, has been released publicly.

“Foreign Languages 100 Series”is the first volume of the“Prime Age in Prime Expo”series. From now on to 2010, there will be other books published such as“Foreign Languages 300 Series”,“Foreign Languages Grammar Know-How Series”,“Professional English for Communications Series”,“Foreign Languages Pocket Book Series”and“English Talk at World Expo.”

The appearance of“Prime Age in Prime Expo: Foreign Language 100 Series”coincides with the launch of the“Embrace Expo Shanghai with Zeal for Foreign Languages”lecture series at the Volunteer Training Center for Expo Shanghai.

“Expo Shanghai Sci-Tech Program”Identified

“Expo Shanghai Sci-Tech Program”sets its priority of the year on 20 issues under four major headings including“information service and semiconductor lighting”,“venue design and landscape design”,“environmental protection and resource recycling”and“city safety and medical security.”
Based on international practices and Shanghai’s needs, the city has framed“Expo Shanghai Sci-Tech Program: 2005-2010”and put it into practice. The Program holds up the theme of“Expo Technology”embodied in“Hi-tech, Expo High”and stresses five points:“Magnificent Expo”,“Orderly Expo”,“Environmental-Friendly Expo”,“Safe and Healthy Expo”and“Science Boosting Expo.”

Sino-Italian Joint Effort to Provide Expo Park with Hydrogen Energy

“Shanghai Hydrogen Energy Institute”, a Sino-Italian cooperative research center, was officially launched on the morning of August 3. Experts from China and Italy are jointly studying the feasibility of developing a kind of clean energy using hydrogen. The Energy Center of the Expo Park is looking forward to the installation of the MCFC Fueling Cell System, the fruit of both Chinese and Italian experts, during the Expo 2010.

Agreement Signed between the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination and the Organizing Committee of the 2006 Hangzhou World Leisure Expo

“The Symposium on Expo Shanghai Linkage, Service and Economy Push”was held by the Hangzhou Municipal Government and the Yangtze Delta Cities Economy Coordinating Conference in the Shanghai International Convention Center on the morning of August 18. The meeting witnessed major officials present including Zhou Yanqun, Standing Vice Director of the Shanghai World Expo Executive Committee, Sun Zhonghuan, Deputy Secretary of the Hangzhou Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, and Dai Liu, Vice Director of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination.

Dai Liu, on behalf of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, signed the“Agreement on Promoting, Linking and Serving Expo Shanghai During the 2006 Hangzhou World Leisure Expo”with the Hangzhou Organizing Committee.

“Expo Ad and Media Professional Manager Certification Training Program”on Enrollment

“Expo Ad and Media Professional Manager Certification Training Program”, sponsored by Shanghai Expo Talents Development Center and others, began to accept applications from the public from mid-August.
“Expo Ad and Media Professional Manager Certification Training Program”is one of ten training modules under the“Expo Ad and Media Professionals Certification Training Program”. The program, a tailor-made training package for ad and media talents for Expo Shanghai, is being undertaken by the School of Media and Design, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and the textbook is developed by professors in mass communication in conjunction with Peking University.

Shanghai Telecom and Shanghai Mobile Favor Expo 2010

Mid-August saw two Expo-related events sponsored by two major communications operators. One was the“Telecommunications VS. Expo Forum”held by Shanghai Telecom, which portrayed the Expo 2010 landscape supported by modern communications technology and service; and the other was Shanghai Mobile, who chose 10 from their 48,200 clients as“Lucky Clients”to enjoy“China Mobile GoTone Tour to Expo Aichi.”Since signing the“2005 Partnership Agreement”with the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, both Shanghai Mobile and Shanghai Telecom have offered“Expo 2010”favorable packages one after the other.
