The First China Expo Forum for International Cooperation Was Successfully Held

During January 11-13, 2005, the First China Expo Forum for International Cooperation (CEFCO), which was co-organized by China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI), the International Association for Exhibition Management (IAEM) and the Society of Independent Show Organizers (SISO), was successfully held in Beijing. The forum was composed of "Forum Meetings" and the China International Trade Show for Exhibitions and Conferences (InterExpo 2005). "Forum Meetings" included five parts, namely, the "Opening-up, Cooperation and Win-win" theme conference, the "Exhibition Cities Aimed at the 21st Century" forum, the Global Summit of CEOs from the Exhibition Industry, the Round Table Conference of Trade Organizations in the Exhibition Industry, Meetings to Promote Cooperation in Exhibition Projects, and Meetings to Negotiate for Joint Investment and Cooperation in Exhibitions. The InterExpo was mainly made up of two parts: exhibitions organized by exhibition companies and units and seminars and special-topic lectures on exhibition.
The InterExpo has attracted much attention from people within the exhibition industry ever since its first session was held in 2000, and gradually formed its own unique brand. The First China Expo Forum for International Cooperation made an organic combination between forum meetings and the InterExpo 2005, which may be rated as a grand occasion at the highest-level in China's exhibition industry. With "Opening-up, Cooperation and Win-win" as the theme, the forum had the participation of approximately 600 people in the exhibition industries at home and abroad, who are from different places of China and 17 foreign countries and regions. They took part in the forum meetings and relevant activities, carried out discussions around the hot spots of the exhibition economy, and jointly explored ways for the development of the exhibition industries of China and other countries and methods of cooperation in this aspect. All the activities were arranged in a compact manner with abundant practical contents, and thus won the favorable comments of the participants.。
This forum has got vigorous support from the Chinese Government. On the afternoon of January 11, the Vice-premier of the State Council and Chairperson of Shanghai 2010 World Expo National Organizing Committee, Wu Yi attended the plenary session of the forum and gave a keynote speech. She sincerely invited people of exhibition circles around the globe to pay high attention and give strong support to the Expo 2010 Shanghai and participate in this grand occasion. She said that China was now intensifying efforts to make preparations for Expo 2010 Shanghai, which would definitely promote the cooperation and communications among various countries in respect of economy, culture and technology and facilitate the mutual prosperity and advancement of all countries in the world. She also stated that China would try hard to turn Expo 2010 Shanghai into a successful, splendid and memorable international event.
Vice-mayor of Beijing, Lu Hao, Vice-mayor of Shanghai, Zhou Yupeng, Vice-mayor of Guangzhou, Chen Mingde, and Vice-mayor of Dalian, Xing Liangzhong were also present at the forum and illustrated their points of view at the meeting with the theme of "Exhibition Cities Aimed at the 21st Century". Zhou Yupeng, Standing Member of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, Deputy Mayor of Shanghai, Member of the Shanghai 2010 World Expo National Organizing Committee, Standing Deputy Chairman of the Shanghai 2010 World Expo Executive Committee, and Director of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination made a speech entitled "Modern Exhibition Industry Pushes Forward the Modernization Process of Cities". He indicated that Expo 2010 Shanghai would contribute greatly to accelerating the process of making Shanghai into a modern international metropolis and provide a great opportunity for the development of Shanghai's exhibition economy. He also noted that, Shanghai would make use of this opportunity to strengthen international cooperation and communication, gradually set up a rational layout of Shanghai's exhibition industry, build exhibition brands and train a large number of human talents in this field.
At the "Evening of the Expo" banquet co-organized by the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, the Shanghai World Expo Group and the Shanghai World Expo Land Holding Co., Ltd., Expo 2010 Shanghai again became the focus of attention. Vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Cheng Siwei, President of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and Vice-chairman of Shanghai 2010 World Expo National Organizing Committee, Wan Jifei, Vice-president of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and Members of Shanghai 2010 World Expo National Organizing Committee, Gao Yan and Zhou Yupeng were present at the evening banquet. In his address, Zhou Yupeng made an introduction to the latest progress of the preparatory work of the Shanghai World Expo and the future plan. He stated that Shanghai's success in bidding for the right to hold the World Expo was a full acknowledgement of China's economic and social development, including the advancement of the exhibition industry from international community, since it adopted the reform and opening-up policy. Expo 2010 Shanghai would provide an excellent opportunity for Shanghai to explore, to learn and to make rapid progress in the course of developing its exhibition industry, and would exert a profound influence on the exhibition industry of Shanghai and China for quite a long period.
During the banquet, some video films were shown to give publicity to the Expo 2010 Shanghai, which presented vivid pictures of Expo 2010 Shanghai at present and in the future. The guests present at the banquet freely aired their views on the World Expo and gave expression to their keen interest and full confidence in Expo 2010 Shanghai and their best wishes.
The CEOs of exhibition companies of great international fame, such as Xue Mishao, Chairman of the Board of Messe Frankfurt GmbH, Mike Rusbridge, President and CEO of Reed Exhibitions Group, and Jochen Witt, President and CEO of Cologne International Exhibitions GMBH attended the Global Summit of CEOs from the Exhibition Industry and gave lectures. Chen Xianjin, president of Shanghai World Expo (Group) Co., Ltd., made a speech entitled "Grasp the Opportunities Brought about by the Shanghai World Expo, and Establish Flagship Enterprises in the Exhibition Industry", which left a deep impression on the audience.
In a word, the First China Expo Forum for International Cooperation manifested a combination of internationalism, professionalism and openness. The Sixth China International Trade Show for Exhibitions and Conferences, which was held during the same period, was participated by over 100 exhibition enterprises including five affiliates of the Expo Group. This forum has built a platform for further exchange and cooperation between Chinese and international exhibition industries, and made a good start for China's exhibition industry to open wider to the outside world, seek extensive cooperation and try to achieve win-win result. At the forum, the relationship between the Shanghai World Expo and the exhibition industry of China was a hot topic, and grasping the opportunities brought about by the Expo 2010 Shanghai to develop the exhibition industry of China in the 21st century became the common wish of the participants.
