I want to use two words to describe my impression of this project and
the city Shanghai: one is "Open"; the other is "Efficient".
"Open" refers to its open culture, open idea and open aesthetics. Our
proposal is a very characteristic unconventional design. Although we have taken
Chinese cultures and regional cultures into consideration in choosing this
design direction, different nations have different cultural differences and
aesthetic tendencies, so we have estimated it may not be accepted or recognized.
To our surprise, however, when the project is carried out, many participants in
this project can understand and recognize this proposal well, and the repulsion
or opposition didn' occur as expected, which lets us appreciate deeply the
openness, internationalism and comprehensiveness of Shanghai culture.
"Efficient" refers to the high efficiency in Shanghai I have experienced in
the whole process of this project from the design to construction. Rapid
coordination, advancing and implementation under complicated conditions, the
organizer's high efficiency is really marvelous and lets everything "impossible"
turn into "possible". The rhythm of this internationalized metropolis makes us
feel the pulse of China's development.
