Wang Qishan Inspects the Preparation for Expo 2010

Practical and Detailed Preparatory Works Show Shanghai's Soft Power

Wang Qishan, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister of the State Council, paid an investigation visit to Shanghai for inspection of the city's preparation for Expo 2010, accompanied by Yu Zhengsheng, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, and Han Zheng, Deputy Secretary of Shanghai Municipal Party Committee and Mayor of Shanghai. During the visit, Wang stressed that hosting a successful, splendid and unforgettable world exposition is a nationwide effort, which needs to mobilize the enthusiasm of all sides and gather the wisdoms of all peoples.Wang also visited the Expo Site to have a closer look at the construction of pavilions and support facilities while holding informal discussions with chiefs in charge, who reported in detail the site master plan and current progress in development.

Wang recognized the Expo Site selection and planning, which attaches much importance to the improvement of urban environment and preservation of ecological environment by developing large landscape parks and green spaces. Wang pointed out that Shanghai, as the main force in preparation for the Expo, shall adhere to a scientific outlook on development in the course of preparation, with the principle of "people-oriented, cost-saving, honest, and safe"; shall build a better soft environment, focused on the theme "Better City, Better Life", to show Shanghai's soft power. Wang also noted that the Expo Organizer should bear a deeper sense of responsibility and urgency, take full consideration of possible difficulties and overall situations, and make great efforts to conduct the preparatory works in a practical and meticulous manner.
