An earthquake of Magnitude 8 hit Wenchuan, Sichuan Province. The hills broke, the houses collapsed, everywhere became relics.

This is a sorrow moment for the whole country!

May 19th, 2008 at 14:28, we will remember this moment forever--

The sacred national flag is dropped for the victims, all of the horns and sirens hoot, the sky and the earth are in sadness, and the river and mountain start crying.

In the Disaster Rescue, what we can see is that the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and the Prime Minister of the State Council visited the quake-hit areas in person by taking the risk of aftershock, "We must race against the time to search and rescue the quake-hit people!" "We will make 100% of efforts even if there is only 1% of hope!"

In the Disaster Rescue, what we can see is that the People' Liberation Army, the Armed Police Force, firefighters and "Angels in white" have rescued the quake-affected people without any break, "Let me rescue one more!", "No matter what it costs."

In the Disaster Rescue, what we can see is that the people are so lovely and kind to actively make donation and blood donation, "Today, we are all Sichuan people!" "The mountain may collapse but the heart of Chinese people will never be collapsed!"

The disaster is a test for a nationality.

Being stronger in sadness and gathering in tears, this is the power source for consistent growth of Chinese people over more than five thousand years! What kind of difficulty can beat us? "Such a country, where more than thousands of people can be sent immediately to participate in disaster rescue and the traffic will be blocked because of volunteers striving for blood donation and rescuing the victims, will never be beaten!"

Undoubtedly, Chinese people will win the final success in this Disaster Rescue and also successfully host the 2008 Beijing Olympics as well as the Expo Shanghai 2010. We will display the theme of "Better City, Better Life" vividly during the World Expo 2010 Shanghai China, and host a "successful, splendid and unforgettable" world exposition.

Tightly Connected with Victims in Quake-hit Areas

The people from the whole country focus on quake-hit areas, Expo Shanghai People are also connected tightly with the people there.

The total amount of donation increases continuously

In order to help the people in quake-hit areas to overcome the disaster, the Committee of Communist Party of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination has, at the first time, called the members of Communist Party, members of Youth League, and all of the staff to make donations for Disaster Rescue. The leaders of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination have made donation actively and all of the members of Communist Party, staff even the temporary labors and students who practice in the Bureau have participated in this donation activity to express their care on the people in quake-hit areas.

The staff of Shanghai Expo Land Holding have taken actions immediately after hearing of the disaster and actively participated in donation to company to express the love for the people in quake-hit areas. The company decided to make a donation of RMB 1million for reconstruction in quake-hit areas.

"Although we can not head for the frontier, but we connect with the quake-hit areas. We hope that we can make our contributions and send our love to the people in quake-hit areas through donation."

Tears surging out in condolence

At noon of May 19th, all the staff of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination has received such a message: "the Bureau plans to organize a collective condolence at Room 408 in No. 1 Building at 14:28 on May 19, at that time, all the vehicles and sirens in the administrative area will hoot. Hope individual units and departments to arrange the works properly and organize the staff to participate such activity at 14:15."

At 14:28, all the staff of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination mourned the victims in the earthquake of Wenchuan, Sichuan Province for three minutes.

After the collective condolence, Zhong Yanqun, the Standing Deputy Director of Shanghai 2010 World Exposition Executive Committee, expressed that although we could not reach the frontier of disaster rescue, but our hearts are connected with those people in quake-hit areas. We would send our sincere wishes to the people in quake-hit areas, and do our utmost to help them reconstruct their home. She also mobilized all the staff participating in the organization of World Expo, to work harder and harder by transforming the sadness into strength, implement the preparation works for 2010 Shanghai Expo and make new contributions to development and progress of our country.

We are in action

In order to express the deep feeling of Expo Shanghai People to the people in quake-hit areas, and help those people to go through the hard time and reconstruct the home, the Committee of Communist Party of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination has set up a special column for Disaster Rescue under the slogan of "Expo Shanghai People is in action", to collect the ideas and comments on disaster rescue from all the staff.

Expo Shanghai People are always pondering what we can do for the quake-hit areas.

They proposed: no matter how little is your contribution, the collection of our little contributions will be helpful to the people in quake-hit areas to overcome the difficulties.

In addition to calling on donation and setup of volunteer team, some people also proposed that, whether it is necessary to arrange some elements of disaster rescue in the exhibition of China Pavilion to reflect the unity spirit of Chinese people. Other people suggested on construction of "Expo Hope School" in the quake-hit areas or financing the learning of children in quake-hit areas.

The plan of publicity week is adjusted promptly

On May 17, the publicity week of Expo Shanghai, i.e. the exhibition of the "Path to the World Expo" was held in Fuzhou. This publicity week in Fujian was an important stop in southeast coastal areas and the schedule of activities was fixed as early as in advance of three months. The preparation of exhibitions, campus tour of world expo and opening ceremony were commenced one month before.

After the earthquake of Wenchuan, Sichuan Province, the organizers of publicity week promptly adjusted the plan, cancelled the previously planned performances at the opening ceremony and other celebration activities, and donate the saving in the expenses for opening ceremony to the quake-hit areas via Red Cross of Fujian Province to support and help the people in quake-hit areas. At the same time, the organizers of publicity week also prepared some exhibition boards printed with "Mountains may collapse but the determination of Disaster Rescue will never be collapsed; water may be blocked but the blood thicker than water type relationship of Chinese people from everywhere will not be blocked". At the site of exhibition, the donation box was available. Furthermore, special ceremonies were held prior to press conference of publicity week, activity of "Campus tour of World Exposition" and speech on World Expo themes to express condolence to the victims in the earthquake.

In the campus tour of World Expo, Jiang Yating, a girl from Taibei who is learning in Fujian Normal University, expressed that, the supports provided by all the people made her very warm, and the emotion which is reflected hereof made her believe that Sichuan will go through this hard time. Similarly, she also believed that the World Expo 2010 Shanghai will be hosted successfully with the efforts of the people from the whole country.
