The first Expo Dictionary (Chinese-English-French) compiled by the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination was launched in Shanghai in July 23. Mr. Zhou Hanmin, Deputy Chairman of CPPCC Shanghai and Deputy Director-General of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination was also present at the opening ceremony. Owing to the fact that many special terms will be confronted in the preparation of Expo Shanghai, the publishing of the dictionary will help greatly for the public to know World Expo and its terms, and to help volunteers to better carry out their jobs and communicate with foreigners. More than 2,500 words and phrases are collected in the dictionary ranging from all business branches of World Expo including those in the fields of history, current situation, organizational structure, construction & exhibition, operation and management, communication and promotion, market development, safeguarding, finance and assistance, etc. All terms are translated into both English and French, some are provided with remarks.
