Recruiting Contractors for Exhibition Design & Engineering of the Theme
Pavilions of World Expo 2010 Shanghai China
To offer the visitors an inspiring and memorable experience of the theme of
World Expo 2010 Shanghai China (hereinafter referred to as "Expo 2010
Shanghai"), which is "Better City, Better Life", Bureau of Shanghai World Expo
Coordination (hereinafter referred to as "the Organizer") is now recruiting
contractors for exhibition design & engineering of the Theme Pavilions of
Expo 2010 Shanghai on the principle of being "open, fair, and just". Below are
the relevant particulars:
I. Background information on Theme Pavilions Based on
the current spatial and content plan, the Organizer is to develop five Theme
Pavilions on the expo site, which aim to demonstrate the relations between human
life and cities under different temporal and spatial conditions. Followed are
the basic exhibition contents of the five pavilions:
1. The
"Urbanian" Pavilion: The content of this pavilion shall reflect, through
day-to-day life, employment and leisure life of urban population, how city meets
people's needs and what kind of city makes life better.
2. The "City
Being" Pavilion: To allow visitors to see how the urban system works, the
content of this pavilion is based on the analogy that city is like a living
organism. Through presenting the human influence on urban system and how it in
turn affects the human survival and development, the pavilion reveals how men
should take care of their cities and what kind of life makes cities better.
3. The "Urban Planet" Pavilion: Through presenting changes in
relations between cities, evolution of rural-urban linkages as well as the urban
impact on global ecology, this pavilion reflects the influence global
urbanization exerts on the Earth and explores how nations should enhance the
cooperation to preserve the common home of mankind.
4. The Urban
Civilization and Art Museum: It interprets the path of urban development from
artists' perspective. Through pieces of art such as architecture, sculpture and
paintings, either real or replicated with virtual technologies, the museum will
shed light on the "footprints" of human civilization.
5. The
"Dream" Pavilion: The pavilion offers a review of mankind's dream and quest for
"ideal urban life" all the way through history. The exhibition will also invite
visitors to contemplate on how people's way of thinking and behaviors in
day-to-day life influence the future of mankind and its cities, thus bringing
out the notion that a sustainable future starts from today.
Among the
five Theme Pavilions, "Urbanian", "City Being" and "Urban Planet" are to be
housed in new buildings, located in the Pudong Area of the Expo Site, with
15,000 sqm. floor area for each, while "the Urban Civilization and Art Museum"
and the "Dream" Pavilion will use renovated plant buildings, situated in the
Puxi Area, with floor areas of 20,000 sqm. and 9,000 sqm.
respectively.
II. Qualification of the
applicant
The applicants shall satisfy conditions below: 1.
The applicant shall be legal establishment with valid existence either in China
or in other countries and regions around the world. 2. The applicant shall
possess the financial capability to take on the project. 3. The
applicant shall have positive social images and commendable business
records. 4. The applicant shall have the qualification, experience and
expertise in delivering large thematic exhibitions (from content design through
exhibition engineering work), either single-handedly or through consortium with
qualified peers.
III.Time frame Applications period
starts from June 14, 2007 and ends at 5 pm (Beijing Time) on June 27,
2007. Qualified applicants shall apply within the time frame by
submitting documents of application as indicated in Item 4 and 5 of this
Announcement. The time when the Organizer receives the documentation will be
counted as time of submission.
IV. Documents of
application
The applicant shall submit the following
documents: 1. Company profile with official documentations; 2.
Materials proving experiences and capabilities in delivering large thematic
exhibitions in the last five years (both content design and exhibition
engineering), either individually or jointly with other firms; 3. A
delineation of the content development and design for each of the pavilions as
envisioned by the applicant, as well as an initial proposal on formation of
teams and project management, based the theme of Expo 2010 Shanghai, as well as
the content sketch, building area and location of each pavilion introduced in
this document. (Length not limited) 4. List of major team members,
their qualifications and relevant experiences; 5. Copies of cooperation
agreements, letters of intent or the like documents in the case of joint
application;
In the case that the applicant takes on both exhibition
design and exhibition engineering, it is requested to present qualifications and
licenses for conducting the engineering work; in the case that the applicant
entrusts the engineering work to other qualified firms, relevant documentations
of past collaborations are requested. All the documents above-mentioned shall
be submitted in hard copies (five copies) printed on A4 paper plus one
electronic copy. All the printed copies shall be stamped with official seals of
applicants.

VI. Selection Procedure The Organizer will form a jury
for selection and will follow the procedure mentioned below: 1. After an
examination of the application documents, the jury will shortlist no more than
15 candidates by July 1st in 2007, with a reasonable proportion between domestic
and international firms. 2. The Organizer will then hold a
symposium with the shortlisted firms, in order to expose them to the in-depth
materials and terms of reference needed for the next round of work -- a paid
proposal on content development and initial design of designated pavilions as
well as a project management scheme for the turn-key project, to be submitted by
each shortlisted candidate by August 10, 2007. The Organizer will give priority
to the following three types of candidates in the further selection:
international consortium, consortiums between design and engineering firms, and
firms with representative offices and/or subsidiaries in Shanghai or within
China.
3. The contractors for exhibition design and engineering of the
each of the theme pavilions will be selected by August 24, 2007. In principle,
one pavilion will have one
contractor.
VII. Notes 1. The applicant shall
bear all the expenses incurred by participation in the application. 2. The
applicant shall submit further relevant documents as requested by the
Announcement or by the Organizer in the future. 3. The applicant shall not
compromise interests of the Organizer and those of other applicants through
collusion or other improper conducts. 4. The applicant shall ensure that
information carried in the documents of application and that
shared with the Organizer in other forms are genuine and complete. 5. Without
a written approval granted by the Organizer, the applicant shall not, at
anytime, place or in any way, reveal to a third party or lead the latter into
false belief that it has a connection with the Organizer, which in fact is
non-existent. 6. In the case that an applicant submits false, fabricated or
misleading information or documents, or violates stipulations of the Organizer,
or breaks the guarantee, promise or declarations of their own, the Organizer is
authorized to terminate its candidacy for selection and recruitment. The firm(s)
involved shall bear corresponding legal responsibilities for the defamation or
financial loss brought on the Expo 2010 Shanghai and the
Organizer.
VIII. Declarations 1. The contents of
the Announcement shall not be interpreted as the Organizer's commitment to reach
any type of agreement with applicants. 2. The Organizer will not return the
application documents to the applicant. 3. The recruitment is governed by the
relevant laws and regulations of People's Republic of China. 4. The Organizer
is responsible for the interpretation and explanation of all the matters
related.
