1. Objective: On December 3, 2002, following intense competition, China won
the right to host Expo 2010 Shanghai. It can be anticipated that the holding of
Expo 2010 Shanghai will bring an increasingly open China new opportunities for
rapid development, fully display its achievements since its reform and opening
up in the areas of the economy, culture, science and other respects, expand
China's influence in the world, create huge economic and social benefits for
China, and further promote exchange and cooperation between China and other
countries throughout the world. Making a high-quality and high-standard job of
Expo 2010 Shanghai is the common aspiration of the Chinese people and is also a
glorious undertaking of the people of Shanghai. In order to more extensively,
more artistically, more visually promote Expo 2010 Shanghai, mold Shanghai's
city spirit, and inspire and mobilize the entire city's people to make a good
job of welcoming the arrival of World Expo, Bureau of Shanghai World Expo
Coordination will hold an activity to collect submissions for the official song
of Expo 2010 Shanghai.
This activity will last five years. From December
3, 2003 to December 3, 2008, we will select 10 short-listed songs every year and
one best song of the year. Over the five years, 50 short-listed songs and 5 best
songs of the year will be chosen and finally experts and members of the general
public will select one official song of Expo 2010 Shanghai.

3. Content: "the Expo 2010 Shanghai Official Song Collection Activity"
has been divided into two main categories: Collection of lyrics and song music
scores. Lyrics collection is from December 3 every year to April 30 the
following year. Following a month-long judging period, the 10 short listed song
lyrics will be released through major media. Music scores collection is between
May 1 to August 1 every year. Following judging, 10 short-listed song scores
will be selected and then made into video and audio recordings by radio stations
and TV stations and to ultimately be performed at the singing performance
"Shanghai Welcoming World Expo" on December 3 every year. They will also be made
into a CD and MTV and broadcasted by radio and TV stations.
Requirements
for lyrics: World Expo Shanghai's theme is "Better City, Better Life".
Requirements for short listed lyrics is that they sing about themes such as
China, Shanghai, solidarity and friendship of the Chinese people and people of
nations throughout the world, the longing for World Expo's history, present and
future, and the passions and ideals of young people, science and technology and
people''s lives and the world is one big family, etc. Requirements for lyrics
are that they be meaningful, sincere, with original perspectives, general but
concise. They can be of diverse styles, and have a sense of the modern times.
They can be artistic songs or popular songs and lyrics may be in either Chinese
or English.
Requirements for song scores: They must wholly express and
evaluate the artistic conception and meaning of song scores and artistically
build up and set off the subject. Original writing style, creative rhythm and
leave people a deep impression. Works must be written in standard musical
notation with score and instruction for related singing and performance and must
be accompanied by CDL recordings of the main chorus.

World Expo song: RMB 50000
(all winners have to pay own taxes).
Selection includes preliminary
judging and final judging. The preliminary judging committee will carry out
preliminary judging for all submitted lyrics and song scores, 20 approved short
listed lyrics and song scores will be selected, then the final judging committee
will judge and grade these 20 approved short listed works. According to grading
rank, 10 respective short listed lyrics and song scores will be generated, of
which the highest scoring will be selected as the best song of the year. In
order to ensure the adherence to fair, unbiased and open principles, all rules
and agendas will be made public so as to ensure the whole judging and selection
activity is transparent and reasonable.
5. Judging Committee
The
judging committee includes the preliminary judging committee and the final
judging committee, which will appoint renowned Chinese or overseas people from
the music industry as committee members including composers, songwriters,
singers, music producers, music educators, etc.
