On the 25th of May, at the end of a full
working day, the Mayor of Tangier, BIE President Wu Jianmin and BIE Secretary
General Vicente Gonzalez Loscertales held a press conference summing up a full
day of a symposium on "Routes and Intercultural Dialogue".
In his opening
remarks, BIE President Wu Jianmin, expressed his satisfaction for a successful
symposium. He underlined the importance of the commitment of the Moroccan
government saying that: "during the lunch with the Prime Minister he assured the
BIE of the full support of the government to the Expo." Mr.
Loscertales underlined the importance of this symposium, which took place in the
interval between the BIE enquiry mission, of a few weeks ago, and the date of
the vote in November. He said that "today's workshop is an additional step in
the international campaign of Morocco to promote the importance of their project
with the BIE member states and the citizens in Tangier and in around the
country."
To answer a question on the possibilities of Tangier to win the
bid for an Expo as a milestone in the roadmap of development of Morocco, Mr.
Loscertales explained that Expos are catalysts of innovation and build a
credibility factor vis a vis the international community.
Most of the
questions concerned the perception that the international community has of
Tangier's project. President Wu said: "you have to go all the way, and the most
important thing is communication."
